The news comes from an article published in Ranked # 4 (October-December 2013) of the MAGAZINE MYCOLOGY (bulletin Bresadola Mycological Association) entitled
First findings of Tuber magnatum in Sicily written by Gianrico Vasquez (Amb Catania), Giuseppe Zuccala ', Mario Dollo (Amb Catania) and Gianluca Messina
Tuber magnatum is the name of the species most commonly known as white truffle, also known as "truffle of Alba" or Piedmont, and white truffle of Acqualagna.
The authors report the first findings in Sicily of the aforementioned species in two separate collecting stations in a same area of growth.
The test area is located on the southern slopes of the mountains Erei, in the administrative territory of the municipalities of Enna and Piazza Armerina (EN).
E 'it is known that the truffles in Sicily have always existed. Known as the "cheat", were considered a delicacy by the Benedictine monks of Catania and consumed on special occasions.
In literature there are reports on the presence of this type of fungi (mushrooms underground) in the second half of 1600 to the present day.
Consider that in Sicily there are as many as 12 species of white truffles and 4 species of truffles blacks and they have nothing to envy to those of Piedmont, Umbria and Slovenians (import) as have the exact same characteristics.
And 'desirable to enhance this product and make a boast too Sicilian.
